Microsoft is using this service to enable Safe Deployment Practices on Azure. You can learn more about this from the Ubuntu Summit presentation. Microsoft helpfully illustrates this approach in their official announcement. Instead of having a different state of the archive for each region update

WE HAVE seen a lot of this lately. Haven't we seen enough? Canonical keeps marketing Microsoft traps and vendor lock-in, much of it not just proprietary but also spying monster. Microsoft's strident media operatives then link to Canonical, touting the "love" Microsoft receives from Canonical. Here's one example and a newer example from Microsoft Tim.

Let's get the facts straight.

Clown computing is essentially a security breach, but the new blog post from Canonical's "Senior Public Clown Enablement Director" ("How to ensure security and stability in cloud instances") portrays Microsoft, which works for the NSA, as some sort of security role model. This is what happens when Microsoft pays Canonical for marketing; it stops competing and instead it is selling Windows, Azure, .NET, and so on...

With people like these in charge of Canonical you cannot trust Canonical on security or anything else for that matter. Canonical is trying to finally become profitable by simple selling out to GAFAM.
