Response to Solderpunk (Father of Gemini Protocol) About the Gemini Community
Solderpunk responds to non-sequitur
Some hours ago Solderpunk responded in an atypical fashion to some quip made by an anti-Linux person, who likes to provoke people and who recently claimed there was "boredom" along with other straw men (baseless, weak arguments). Quoting Solderpunk: "there's been some talk in Geminispace lately of the community stagnating."
That "talk" can be attributed to one person (and those who in turn responded to him).
"People are seemingly bored, burnt out, lonely, dispirited," Solderpunk wrote. "I don't really have a good sense of the scope of this feeling, to be honest. I don't have my finger on the pulse of the community at all (which I sometimes feel guilty about, but at the same time think is actually appropriate)."
I spend about 6 times per day reading up and catching up in Geminispace. I still see many new articles 'out there' and many new capsules every month. It seems to be like Solderpunk took the bait and went ahead with a someone's false narrative, under the assumption that it is true.
Solderpunk sort of stepped aside some years ago and some of the initial excitement (or enthusiasm) slowed down around 2022. But that's hardly a new thing, it has been like this for 3+ years. Nevertheless, based on logs (of usage) Gemini Protocol is very much alive and many people still use it.
From what I can gather, Solderpunk lessened his work in this area due to personal reasons. Just because the mailing list is no more doesn't mean fewer people use of have interest in Gemini Protocol. Heck, that list itself had nothing to do with Gemini (E-mail and HTML archives). Now people can use Bubble or BBS.
Everything is OK. █
