[Meme] Faking Azure 'Demand'

posted by Roy Schestowitz on Jun 04, 2024

Modus operandi #1

  1. Microsoft 'invests' billions in country X
  2. But in practice: Microsoft offers Azure 'vouchers' for people to get locked in, does not bill for the initial period

In the short term they lose money and get to bribe local officials (campaign PR stunts) with money that does not even exist!

Modus operandi #2

Reality:

Well, boss, Azure failed; we built it; people didn't come; we overprovisioned

Make believe:

nadella the scammer goes to the charlatan sam altman (deep in the red, only losses); nadella: here, use our datacentres, we'll call everything 'AI', have 10 billion dollars in 'credit'; altman: cool! nadella: we'll bribe some more media to hype this thing up; altman: nice one!

nadella: pretend to be a super-genius and make large llms that waste energy and don't work properly; altman: what about income? nadella: don't worry if there is no business model; we'll just pretend azure is in high demand and attract shareholders to inflate share price, even if openAI, i.e. ourselves, are the biggest 'clients'

Well, they cannot sell to themselves (to fake demand). That's illegal as they would only lose money and misinform investors. Now we have seen mass layoffs (thousands sacked) in Azure with more to come. The bubble is imploding. Will investors run away fast enough?
