What Does the Arrest of Pavel Durov (and the Charges) Mean to "Us Peasants"?

Assange in court: Wait, speaking in privacy is a crime now?

In short: they criminalise journalism that can expose "power" (in the name of "protecting kids", even if child abuse is like one in a million)

With some Pavel Durov legal stuff (in the English language) now in circulation, let's examine what this means in simple terms and why it's a threat to civil society with democracy and free press:

- COMPLICITY – WEB-MASTERING AN ONLINE PLATFORM IN ORDER TO ENABLE AN ILLEGAL TRANSACTION IN AN ORGANIZED GROUP,

People setting up an online platform is "enabling" crime in "organised group".

- REFUSAL TO COMMUNICATE, AT THE REQUEST OF COMPETENT AUTHORITIES, INFORMATION OR DOCUMENTS NECESSARY FOR CARRYING OUT AND OPERATING INTERCEPTIONS ALLOWED BY LAW,

Refusing to cooperate with spies in another country.

- COMPLICITY – POSSESSING PORNOGRAPHIC IMAGES OF MINORS,

Not successfully purging every single child porn image uploaded by one of millions of users at some point in time.

- COMPLICITY – DISTRIBUTING, OFFERING, OR MAKING AVAILABLE PORNOGRAPHIC IMAGES OF MINORS IN AN ORGANIZED GROUP,

The "online platform" is all about child porn, apparently. Nobody uses Telegram for anything else.

- COMPLICITY – ACQUIRING, TRANSPORTING, POSSESSING, OFFERING, OR SELLING NARCOTIC SUBSTANCES,

Making an online platform is the same as being a drug dealer.

- COMPLICITY – OFFERING, SELLING, OR MAKING AVAILABLE, WITHOUT LEGITIMATE REASON, EQUIPMENT, TOOLS, PROGRAMS, OR DATA DESIGNED FOR OR ADAPTED TO GET ACCESS TO AND DAMAGE THE OPERATION OF AN AUTOMATED DATA PROCESSING SYSTEM,

Processing data is very, very naughty.

- COMPLICITY – ORGANIZED FRAUD,

An online platform or a site is fraud if someone on there does illegal things (like many do in Facebook).

- CRIMINAL ASSOCIATION WITH A VIEW TO COMMITTING A CRIME OR AN OFFENSE PUNISHABLE BY 5 OR MORE YEARS OF IMPRISONMENT,

Unspecified offense.

- LAUNDERING OF THE PROCEEDS DERIVED FROM AN ORGANIZED GROUP’S OFFENCES AND CRIMES,

Not keeping track of everybody's finances.

- PROVIDING CRYPTOLOGY SERVICES AIMING TO ENSURE CONFIDENTIALITY WITHOUT A CERTIFIED DECLARATION,

Not asking for permission to have privacy.

- PROVIDING A CRYPTOLOGY TOOL NOT SOLELY ENSURING AUTHENTICATION OR INTEGRITY MONITORING WITHOUT PRIOR DECLARATION,

Not using encryption the way Macron likes it.

- IMPORTING A CRYPTOLOGY TOOL ENSURING AUTHENTICATION OR INTEGRITY MONITORING WITHOUT PRIOR DECLARATION.

Chat Control 2 isn't law (yet), but encryption is already banned... or something. And that's OK, because this is a Russian we're doing this to. Stay out of this or you are Putin's slave.
