After not having a white Christmas it snowed today. It started out as rain in the morning and turned into snow early afternoon. Let's see how long it will last.

02 January 2025
First post in the new year, so a happy new year to anyone reading this!
The last year brought many changes, some good, some bad, some weird... but overall i am pretty happy how everything turned out.
The turn to the new year was quiet relaxed for us, junior stayed up until about 01:00 on the first of January, and he took it very well, using the time to play, sing loudly with his toy guitar in hand and having a really good time. We adults also liked the way we celebrated this year: A small party, only family, good food and good music.

Old Nick is reliably a fun time, this EP celebrates their 5 year anniversary! Tears Of A Crying Wolf is the winner on this for me, diving headlong into techno and wolf howl samples.
i am a big fan of In-House Pharmacy's Tetsuo album so i thought i should check out a different one. this does what it says on the tin, industrial-influenced electronics with swirling piano melodies, making for some interesting & cinematic breakcore. very pleasing.

Goals 2025
I don’t make New Year’s resolutions, especially not the extreme ones like hitting the gym every day. Let’s face it—those rarely last beyond a few weeks. Instead, I like to dedicate each year to focusing on something specific. For instance, in 2024, I concentrated on improving my fishing and stand-up paddleboarding skills. In 2023, my focus was on camping and building out my camping gear, while 2022 was all about swimming and exploring beaches. While I’ve achieved most of my outdoor goals over the years, I’ve fallen short in academic pursuits, like keeping up with blogging for my data science and personal platforms.

Non-server Linux still sucks [Ed: The Microsofter is still at it]
A good way to gauge how suitable Linux is for something is to measure the amount of time until you are reading obscure web forum posts to make something work. And by that metric, Linux still sucks in 2025 for non-server uses.

I'm Back (for now)
I'm writing words online. Word word. Yippee. I took an accidental break for a while because I was very focused on schoolwork (even though I almost failed some of my classes). I suck at being motivated and responsible. I struggle a lot with missing work, but I ace every test I take (I got a 1350 on the PSAT and I ran out of time on the last 3 questions!)

Game Development
I have made some great progress on my upcoming video game. I have a smooth movement system and art style. I'm currently doing a refactoring of the whole project.

Advice for the Newbie or Returning Perl Hacker
So I've been getting back into it, slowly. And here are a few pieces of advice that you didn't ask for but I'm gonna give you anyway.
1. Get the `perlcritic` tool from CPAN and use it.
2. Buy, beg, borrow, or steal a copy of Damian Conway's Perl Best Practices.
`perlcritic` will tell you what to do. It's a code-checking tool, a la `pylint` or what ever that thing the cool Python kids are using in 2025.
The Conway book, on the other hand, clearly explains *why* you should do what `perlcritic` is telling you to do. And if you're a good programmer, I'd say you shouldn't just blindly follow rules. You should know why you should follow them and why you might need or want to flagrantly break them. Really this applies to a lot of human laws and rules and other BS.
