Last Month Our IRC Community Turned 17

posted by Roy Schestowitz on Jul 30, 2025

It is fine

Two years ago, a few months before we dumped WordPress (which we had used since 2006), we mentioned the history of our IRC community, dating back to June 2008 in Freenode. Funnily enough we never missed a single day when it comes to logging and likewise we never missed a message. Our records are very complete.

Freenode perished in 2021 and perhaps this was a blessing in disguise; we finally had a good reason to form our own IRC network, not be a tenant in someone else's. This way we're better off and in greater control over our destiny. Over time our reach grew and we didn't need to depend on some "big network" or Social Control Media. This makes us a lot more robust to censorship.
