Trusting Microsoft is Foolish

Microsoft cannot be trusted. This has been true for 5 decades. Some people either refuse to learn from history or simply receive a salary from Microsoft (so they prefer not to understand).
Recently, as in the past ~2 years, Microsoft paid many sites (lots of IDG-owned sites) to spread misinformation about "lifetime" licences for things like Microsoft Office.
How many people are dumb enough to believe this? Computers don't last a lifetime, software becomes incompatible over time, there are new versions of things (even formats), and so on.
For Microsoft to speak of "perpetual licenses" (or licences in the UK) is "to gaslight customers." Mr. Rossmann says they "gaslight customers" in their Web site, but it goes a lot further than this.
There are many agencies and companies that move to adopt
LibreOffice. If the media still functioned, there would be actual
journalism about what Microsoft has just done and active promotion
of software that uses OpenDocument (ODF). In reality, a lot of
today's media publishes what companies pay it to publish, so it
keeps promoting Microsoft, GAFAM, and openwashed proprietary
"suites" that foolishly claim to use so-called 'OOXML' - a
phantom format. "There are NO suites which use OOXML," an
associate reminds us. "There various .docx formats
which are inspired by OOXML but, as a standard ISO/IEC-29500 is
simultaneously too incomplete and too complex to deploy, Microsoft
continues to use a series of slightly incompatible, proprietary
file formats instead to drive market share of its office suite. The
easy way would have been to deploy OpenDocument Format (ISO/IEC
26300), but then that would allow for full interoperability and
eliminate Microsoft's monopoly over productivity software file
formats, so it is not going to happen -- ever. The only way out is
to ditch MSO and the related Microsoft services." █
