Upcoming Talk by Dr. Richard Stallman: Large Language Models Are Not Artificial Intelligence

FSF

THIS past summer in Italy Richard Stallman explained why chaffbots (chatbots) are not "AI". Alex Oliva, his eminent right-hand man, spoke of the same issue. Oliva is a voting member of the FSF's Board and his heart is in the right place, which we're sincerely grateful for. Oliva's naysayers deserve condemnation for trying to cancel him, too. It's the new Maoism.

According to this page, Stallman's second talk in Germany (he's giving several this week) will be entitled Artificial Intelligence vs Language Models (not the same, LLMs aren't truly intelligent and cannot quite grasp what they spew out).

Here's the relevant part of the page:

Oct 3rd & 4th, 2023 in Frankfurt, Germany

Free Software and Your Freedom

Time: October 3rd, 7pm
Place: Kleyerstraße 15, 60326 Frankfurt am Main

Artificial Intelligence vs Language Models

Time: October 4th, 7pm
Place: Kleyerstraße 15, 60326 Frankfurt am Main

Maybe there will be a video of either (or both) of these talks that we can share later. We recently implemented a system for video imports in our custom Perl-based static site generator.

Thank you, Dr. Stallman, for remaining so passionate and energetic. We wish for your speedy and permanent recovery.
