Google News, Which We Call Gulag Noise, is Following the New York Times Into the Digital Graveyard
THE other month we noted that Gulag Noise (real disservice name is "Google News" [sic]) was listing computer-generated spew (chatbots-derived garbage and plagiarism) as "news". In recent days we started noticing that a search for "linux" in Gulag Noise returns many results that aren't in English (despite the settings for language being English).
This follows a trend we've noticed in the New York Times; due to a lack of news the New York Times started posting many articles not in English (e.g. Mandarin, Spanish) right there in the English sections and front page "articles" were outright ridiculous (including old cooking recipes). The news industry isn't doing well; wasting people's time with irrelevant results won't fix that. It merely gives an illusion of volume and instead of giving readers more stuff to read it wastes people's time. █
