OpenBSD Says That Even on Linux, Wayland Still Has a Number of Rough Edges (But IBM Wants to Make X Extinct)
THIS recent presentation from OpenBSD can help us "borrow" their expertise in graphics from a more independent if not potentially hostile perspective. OpenBSD's chief explained his views on Wayland last month. He said: "The writing has been on the wall a very long time that some people believe their role in the ecosystem is to reduce software choice and push everyone into vertical software monocultures."
The presentation by Matthieu Herrb is a PDF file with characters properly embedded. Herrb says: "Even on Linux, Wayland still has a number of rough edges..."

Every week for the past decade or so Phoronix shilled Wayland relentlessly, constantly saying it was ready (sort of like Team UPC) despite glaring and show-stopping barriers and obstacles. Never mind reality and never mind if Wayland does not work well for some people, who rely on software that outright lacks support for Wayland. Even Phoronix has just admitted a limitation. Wayland is not for me. It's not ready for me. It's not ready for many people, but IBM tries to impose unready software on users. It would help sell support contracts (to "fix" what goes wrong). █
