Ruben Schade's Story Shows the Toxicity of Social Control Media, Not GNU/Linux
Social Control Media for the grumpy groupthink:
THE other day we noticed a group of blog posts or cluster of Linux-shaming screed, attributing some rude people to "GPL" or "Linux". Upon closer scrutiny it turned out to be just the typical nonsense/noise from Social Control Networks. Ruben Schade had previously complained about rude comments made in sites like Hacker News about his articles; we too can relate to that sentiment and we wrote about that several times in the distant past (years ago). We had also made several videos about that.
The issue here is Social Control Media [sic], which unlike the media rewards people for brigading otherwise OK or reasonable people.
Our message to Ruben Schade is, don't take Social Control Media too seriously. It's not even media! We in this site have all along been supportive of BSDs and we often mention BSD in tandem (alongside GNU/Linux) because we share many of the goals and recognise the overlap.
By the way, when we refer to Social Control Media we also mean YouTube. Many "Linux" YouTubers can be rather nasty and even 'troll' the audience to stand out with clickbait (for traffic).
Social Control Media is the issue or the "disease" as Linus Torvalds once called Facebook; what Ruben Schade et al witnessed is merely a symptom. █
