Reminder: Richard Stallman's Talk is This Week in Paris (and in French)
THE next talk by rms is this week. Today it's Sunday, so we can finally say "later this week". We expect that an angry mob will try to cancel the talk by reusing old lies. If we want to protect the ideas (or vision) of Software Freedom, then we should protect the pioneer and main messenger. No other speaker can claim to have created GPL, GNU (later called "Linux" by many), and a decentralised "Free software movement". Even if rms did some tactless things over the years, he's still the original visionary, which makes him indispensable. Nobody is perfect.
rms is 71 and he has cancer. GNU turned 40 some months ago and Tux Machines turns 20 in 4 weeks.
Defending rms isn't the same as defending everything he has ever said (about anything!). It's about fairness and free/open discourse. See The Persecution of Richard Stallman because the original video has been taken "private", which means all the comments are no longer accessible! Did the person receive abusive comments? Why was the video taken "offline"? █
