Intentional weight loss
Straying out of my wheelhouse into new topics is always a li’l scary, especially controversial topics. This one is a mess because it's both politically contentious & also unsually personal & oversharey for this capsule.

new magic sprout
for the first time in a long while i've gotten an inkling of a spiritual/magical ... thing. concept. way. for a long time i've been Trying. and that counts but it's not that inspiring organic feeling where the right thing comes along. my Trying has mostly consisted of mantra meditation and the aramaic prayer as gratitude and a magical formula, and i'm sure they'll keep serving me in various situations.

First past the post
You know how in number guessing games, where you win if you guess closest, so if Alice guesses say 254 and I think it’s closer to a thousand, I’m still better off guessing 255 because if it is actually 626, that’s closer to 254 than it is to 1000 so I would’ve lost if I had said 1000?

Modern XMPP
I’m glad XMPP is getting some love. It’s a protocol that has some advantages over Matrix and ActivityPub and even over IRC. (even though adding OMEMO to IRC might be possible, the way XMPP federates is a li’l more flexible than how IRC federates). Not that I’m ready to take all my proverbial eggs out of the ActivityPub, email, or IRC baskets just yet. Email is my doll my dear my darling♥︎ but ultimately from a user perspective, choosing a protocol is about the people on it. I find a lot of awesome stuff on email, on ActivityPub, on IRC and on XMPP so they’re all great in terms of what’s on it. Philosophically is where it doesn’t make sense to keep spending time developing a protocol when there’s a better protocol for the same thing and I don’t know yet which of these four li’l creatures is the best one. I suspect email is the best♥︎

First of All; I'm Sorry...
Have you ever heard of zenity? It's a widget library for bash scripts. Not a GUI library, mind you; a widget library. If you have a script that needs user input you can make it a little prettier by adding a dialogue box, a calendar for date choice, a list, or similar.
There is no reactivity in this. The chosen value is read when the user clicks "OK" and the widget closes. Great UX for collecting some user input!
