The Media Finally Admits (on a Regular Basis) That LLMs Suck
LLMs always sucked. They could not replace medical doctors, teachers, lawyers etc.
Having said that, companies including Microsoft paid the most corruptible media outlets to call LLMs "AI" (chatbots have no actual intelligence) and make tall, unsupported assertions about capability, potential capabilities, and use cases.
Lately in Daily Links we've included many links about misinformation produced by LLMs and this article from Cory Doctorow (What Kind of Bubble is AI?) is aging quite well. I spoke to Mr. Doctorow several times last month (even last week) and I hope we'll have more "I told you so!" moments later in the year.
LLMs are generally a pile of expensive-to-produce and expensive-to-use garbage that stinks from a distance. But with corrupted, subverted media we didn't get told such facts. Some so-called 'journalists' profited from the hype. █
