Mystery Surrounding the PCLinuxOS Sites and PCLinuxOS Magazine

posted by Roy Schestowitz on Jul 03, 2025

Some years ago PCLinuxOS Magazine (https://pclosmag.com/) suffered a security breach. It had to restore from a very old (years-old) backup, then piece together the publications, which was a huge task. https://pclosmag.com/ is offline at the moment, the forums at https://pclinuxos.com look like this:

pclinuxos

This is OK.

https://mypclinuxos.com/ is offline, https://pclinuxos.com is missing many of the key pages:

The Boomer Distribution

The RSS feed came up with or burped out this page of a pristine site:

Welcome to WordPress. This is your first post. Edit or delete it, then start writing!

It's possible that they do a migration of some kind (datacentre, OS, CMS upgrade), I've not yet seen any evidence of a breach, just loads of missing pages and downtime.

It's possible that they try a fresh start with WordPress, but there was no announcement about that kind of thing.

Let's hope this isn't something major (like what happened to PCLinuxOS Magazine years ago). The new issue of PCLinuxOS Magazine should be out any time now; no announcement has been made yet. If this issue persists, then we'll contact key people at PCLinuxOS and see if we can get an explanation or timeline for service to be restored.
