Microsoft's Failing XBox Business Has Turned Games Into Funerals

Yesterday: Microsoft Does Not Deny That Large Retailers Like Walmart, Costco and Target Are Giving Up on XBox (and Not Stocking It)

XBox is circling down the drain. Even its founders tacitly admit it's "game over" for XBox. When people correctly point out that retailers drop XBox (no longer on sale) Microsoft does not dispute that but instead responds to straw man arguments (saying XBox is not dead, yet).

This week there were many articles (over a dozen) such as these about "one of the many victims of owner Microsoft’s frequent layoffs."

  1. Everwild Leaked Screenshots Show One Of The Biggest Losses From Xbox’s Recent Layoffs

Following its abrupt cancellation earlier this year, Rare’s Everwild has briefly reemerged in the form of a few screenshots of what the game could have been. Shared in the online portfolio of one of Everwild’s artists, the screenshots offer a brief glimpse of how the combat-free adventure game could have played, had its development not been one of the many victims of owner Microsoft’s frequent layoffs.

  2. First screenshots of Rare's ill-fated Everwild emerge thanks to artist's portfolio website

Screenshots of Rare's now-cancelled Everwild have emerged via the portfolio website of an artist who worked on the game.

The game was first announced back in 2019 as Rare's next big release. It was shown with an animated trailer of colourful environments and beautifully strange fantasy creatures, its visuals making an immediate impact. It was then shown again the following year with a new trailer, showing player Eternals soothing those strange creatures.

  3. Screenshots of Rare’s Everwild leak following cancellation | KitGuru

In recent weeks, art leaks have revealed evidence of several cancelled Xbox games, ranging from Perfect Dark to Zenimax Online Studios' cancelled MMO. Now, a new leak has revealed a few screenshots from Rare's now cancelled game, Everwild. MP1st found the screenshots through the website of an unnamed artist who worked on the game.

So much money and labour invested only to go down the drain. How does it feel to depend on Microsoft?

As we said yesterday, recent rumours suggest that more mass layoffs (in XBox) are imminent.
