Science, Not Fast Food/Junk Food
These Koha-connected new slides (apparently just uploaded) are funny. It says the FSF was founded in 1984, not 1985 (it was founded in October 1985), but aside from that the presentation is informative and it's very much OK. There are slides like these:
The red bubble and arrow were added by us.
The Free Software Foundation was founded by scientists and scholars, unlike Microsoft. It was built around scientific principles, not dumpster-diving through the wastebaskets of scientists and scholars (which is how Microsoft started). As noted 3 days ago: "Windows - including Vista 10 - is about business and commerce. It's about money. It's about "shareholders' value" (for Microsoft's stock). Vista 10 is a spying machine, which in no way benefits users. Vista 11 is even worse. Let's get back to science, to engineering, and to technological excellence. See, efficiency and performance matter in GNU/Linux. The goal isn't to sell you more hardware and more licences of the operating system. The aim is to be compatible with as many devices as possible, including old machines. There's no financial incentive or motivation to force people to 'upgrade'."
People who value engineering rather than commercial interests (like letting Microsoft remotely control Vista 11 under the guise/auspices of "AI", only days after pulling the plug on Vista 10) would investigate how to migrate everything to Free software.
The commercial exploitation of users won't stop until users exercise full control over their software or - more broadly - their computing (including data). █
