"GNU/Linux" No Longer a Pandora's Box
Last week this popular video from NationSquid repeatedly mentioned what Richard Stallman had long said:
Later in the same video:
The good thing to see here is the broader recognition that "GNU/Linux" is a thing (it also says "Linux" is the "kernel" and "GNU" is the "software" - perhaps too misleading a narrative because the kernel is software as well).
Of course any time Dr. Stallman dares say it out loud somebody will attack him (for daring to set the record or history straight). When it's some young and "cool" YouTuber it's all fine.
Maybe listen to what he says about how it actually got started. It started more than 42 years ago.
Back in 2009 there was a big wave calling for a cancellation/boycott of him, a 56-year-old person who had 'only' started the operating system on shoestring budget (and for no financial gain). And why this cancellation/boycott? Because some people don't understand - or pretend not to understand - that 1) men too can be virgins and 2) virgins as a word needn't have a sexual connotation at all.
Cannot even make or crack a joke... when you have a target painted on your back. Did anyone ever ask Linus Torvalds "who started GNU/Linux?" Would he walk out if asked? █
