El software libre

The Free Software Foundation (FSF) has less than 92k USD left to raise... and just over 5 days left till January. It'll probably extend that cutoff date and Dr. Richard Stallman (RMS) will sell a gnu in Georgia on the fourth week.

Reddit is, as usual (by design), trying to heckle the FSF, even when there's good news:

Free Software Foundation receives historic private donations; These extraordinary donations totaling almost $900,000 USD, both made to the FSF in the cryptocurrency Monero, are among some of the largest private gifts ever made to the organization. The donors wish to remain anonymous.

Better coverage can be found in Japanese and automated English (derived from Nippon).

Months before a very phony controversy (2019, replayed 2 years later) the FSF secured a similar sum of money in another "currency".

Many in the 'hacker culture' support not only RMS but also the FSF. They recognise the growing importance of freedom-respecting software in an increasingly oppressive planet.

Earlier this month the RMS talk in an event called Cypherpunk Congress (similar topic) was published as a video online.
