Stigma of Being Laid Off by Microsoft
2 days ago: Microsoft Layoffs in India

Several years ago someone from India told us that losing a job at Microsoft was dangerous because many companies would not consider offering the laid-off worker a job. It's exceptionally bad. Why? Because there was a common perception, based on observation and experience, that such people would quit and go elsewhere (company, country) as soon as some other (better) offer came along or that a comparatively lower salary would offer little incentive to excel, let alone perform.
Another emerging concern was, losing a job at Microsoft when there are media reports about "low performers" (being removed en masse) means one gets stereotyped as lazy or as a lousy employee.
This problem is not entirely unique to Microsoft; in Microsoft's case, there's an extra danger: people who came from Microsoft tend to export Microsoft mindset and Microsoft toolsets with them, e.g. software and disservices (vendor lock-in) brought to future employers, incurring heavy costs and low reliability.
One might call this the "curse" of having worked for Microsoft. To hide one's past employment there leads to a presumption of dishonesty:

Next month it is rumoured that many people will have their Microsoft employment terminated under the guise of "low performance". █
