Fake Growth of Social Control Media is Misleading
Nowadays "the Federation" is bots. And when people link to something in those platforms it leads to many bots establishing connections to servers. It's a giant waste of electricity.

The Federation or Fediverse or whatever (not the same thing, but overlapping concepts or abstraction thereof) is not really growing, it weeds out militants, many nodes shut down, and the above chart shows what is truly happening. In Mastodon, the number of active users is moving down, many people use bots to just automatically promote their blogs in the Fediverse (in effect enrolling those into social control media), and there is little interaction going on. Heck, 8.3% of the accounts there are inactive, and that's not counting accounts hosted in nodes that already went offline:

In 2026 people already move on, and there's growing backlash against chatbots, so usage of those too has declined. Maybe social control media was all the rage in 2010 (Arab Spring), but nowadays people look for alternatives - ones not controlled by MElon, CPC, and Kapo-Berg. Mastodon isn't that alternative, it is an imitation of the problem that it is failing to tackle. █
