Looks like spring is over and summer is now here. Time to have a look at our gardening efforts on the balcony.
In case you missed it, we're trying to grow various vegetables on our balcony this year. This post is an account of how the plants are doing, since it seems summer is here.
I don't. I've noticed that I hardly ever dream about computers, either using them or simply as an object in the environment. That's interesting considering how much of my waking life revolves around them.
There's a surprising amount of, uh, estimation going on. I mean you calculate the expected orbit velocity for a circle and the transfer ellipse, dutifully apply the necessary thrust, and... the satellite never gets there. Almost. So then you fudge the numbers a bit, maybe put in a "let me know if it gets out this far?" check and then fudge some more. And that's just a 2-body system!
Daniel Stenberg is a well known figure in the Free Software and Open Source worlds. Not only is he the author and maintainer of Curl, one of the world's most used pieces of software, he has somehow managed to make a living developing Curl pretty much exclusively. I have a lot of respect for the guy. He recently wrote a blog article about his response to a pull request which would add Gemini support to Curl. He wasn't exactly kind to Gemini. This has bothered a lot of folks probably more than it should.
