X11's codebase is so old (about as old as me) that it doesn't compile cleanly with anything modern unless you hide over 10,000 warnings.

AFAIK nobody ever actually went back and investigated anything that those warnings were about, they just set things up so the compiler wouldn't tell you about it.

I read why these cars have those stupid "engine covers" and it all started out when the governments demanded that the car have some recycled components.

Putting a cover over the engine was a way to comply with that.

Funny thing is that in some cars, this contributed to the engine catching fire and the car burning up due to heat and oil accumulation.

When I had the old Impala serviced for recall, they took the cover off because it was part of what could cause a fire.

One reason I just take the engine cover off and throw it away when I get a car is because they don't do anything except trap heat and oil and cause things to degrade and possibly burn up.

The 3800 V6 spent 40 years without an engine cover and then GM decided that for the last 7 years it needs one so it can explode and wear down your spark plug wires, and such.

Another way of looking at the USDA report is the following:

So if you have even one child, you need to work 24,000 hours (3,000 8 hour shifts) in Illinois at minimum wage.

Unfortunately, humans don't think in these terms.

If you compared Windows and the x86 PC to a car, it would be like someone kept adding 500 pounds to the car every couple of years and just tossing in a bigger engine.

Windows 11 is at the point where you get around at 2 MPGs and not very fast even though the engine has 2000 horsepower.

It's just insane how badly it runs. I bought a new Tiger Lake i7 laptop and Windows 10 had noticeable jank that's just not there with Linux.
