It Has Helped to Have a Backup of a Backup
And services restored
A couple of days ago we planned to record about 4 videos and publish many articles, but disaster suddenly decided to strike and cause a major change of plans.
We are gratified to say that we did not lose any data at all. Having several independent backups of a machine pays off as, in this case, both the main storage decided to commit suicide (no chance of salvation, I tried everything for many hours) and even the system's external clone decided not to work at all!!! As it turns out, only one out of 4 systems actually worked. Some of these clones worked OK only months ago. All of them used USB or MicroSD interfaces. They suck at backups too, even a case of one single backup that writes to them once.
Lessons learned. Lessons shared today.
Thankfully, I was also backing up /home
(not the whole system, unlike the clones) on a nightly basis (to external magnetic storage), so nothing was lost, except lots of time. This site will soon be back to the normal pace of publication, though we are still catching up with news, so this too might take some time. █
