Women and D-Day: Marking International Women’s Day

Women don't often receive recognition for their contributions to Computer Science. The same is true in Software Freedom communities. Instead, women often receive abuse. Women contributed a great deal to many projects, advocacy, documentation, and administrative tasks. All day long, for instance, my wife curates GNU/Linux news.

If we truly value equality, when we must do more to recognise and credit women. We also have a collective obligation to protect them from misogynists.

Being passive is not an option when bad things are happening. The community must be proactive.
