Improving Site Navigation for Easier Discovery and Catch-ups
TWO hours ago I spoke to a longtime reader who said he had been struggling to keep up with this site due to travel and procrastination. He could not go back several days to find days-old articles, so we've decided to improve things and will work on something to that effect.
Another reader has just asked me, "how are things coming w/ techrights git and are you accepting patches?"
All our code is in Git and it is accessible via Gemini Protocol. We occasionally but not often get feedback or suggestions. Some Microsofters just try to bash the code without providing any specifics or examples.
A few hours ago someone wrote in Gemini, "leaving my open-source projects, which I dump a lot of time into, at the mercy of Microsoft's quarterly earnings report has struck me as unwise for a long time. There are a few other less-used hosting providers, but switching to one would just be kicking the can down the road; those quarterly earnings reports will always have their day. In the long run the most stable home for my open-source projects is under my own domain name."
We made the choice to self-host Git a very long time ago. It's not hard to maintain and nobody can take it away.
This site is run by code we wrote ourselves. This means we can extend it the way which suits us. It's a long-term investment as we expect the site to last for decades to come. █
