There's certainly something about freneticism that fascinates. In any case, thinking about it is my only pastime other than playing backgammon with myself. I know there are others here, proximous, but my cloister is sealed.
I'm told - or rather, I've read - that the original vegetative experiments quickly got out of hand, thus my mention of freneticism. The stems and stalks wound and warped themselves through the diameter of the moon, in one side and out the other, looping back around to make further plunges. Of course, all this happened in slow motion. In the end, the radius of the moon itself grew by nearly a kilometre.

week 31 recap
phew! it's been a busy week back from holiday, hit the ground running. the keeping-things-neat and tidying-to-completion is working well! it's not taking up all that much energy to make myself do it anymore so i decided to add a New Thing - language learning. time to start integrating (he said, three years after moving...) alas, flemish lessons are few and far between, so i've been trying dutch. happy to say i'm progressing quite well with glossika's a1 level. i think it's well constructed, they're doing comprehensible input well, very motivating. i've also made important phone-calls and emails, moving Big Things forward (health and home stuff). feeling a little wary but you know, you just have to Do The Things, why wait around until you're less wary? time passes! i'd rather have things done sooner.

BOOM BOOM, the keyboard clacks
I think of BOOM BOOM Here Lies O'Leary, from Scaries Stories Vol 2. I, a guy named O'Leary, remembers this tale along with all other lore surrounding the (fairly rare) O'Leary name. Esp the Chicago Fire, ty Auntie ;)
No, I was thinking of wordplay, wordsmith'ing, how a good way to describe someone insulting a person with intentful hurt and personal hatred would be:
"...she spoke her disgust deliberately, as if saying it while still in the crowd we departed from. As though sky-writing "FUCK YOU" at night, where no one else would see it - just me, the night owl, while the rest of the neighborhood slumbered"

Against "Typing Indicators"
At some point (I can't recall exactly when) someone decided to add "typing indicators" to instant messaging software. Despite being a bad and harmful feature, there was not enough pushback against "typing indicators", and in time they wormed their way into nearly every instant messaging network, and were turned from an "on by default" feature that you can configure your way out of, into a mandatory feature that can't be turned off.
Still, messaging networks die or decline in popularity all the time, and new ones pop up to replace them. So perhaps there's still some value in putting this message out there, in the hope that it will eventually come to the attention of the people who are going to design the networks that will come to replace what's currently in fashion.

I have a new blog at gemini://melyanna.net/ and I am undecided if I should continue writing here, or there, or mirror the two capsules.

Status update August 2024
We released last month Sxmo 1.16. With some patch tags, it went great. It is a tiny release, mostly containing fixes, integrating new apps, and supporting new devices.
Of my most notable patches, we can count (1) some refactorisations around wake scripts. They are now more usefull to the user outside the sxmo internals. It is now very easy for the user to write basic periodic jobs that wake the device from suspension, and keep it awake while doing so. (2) A red LED when the battery level is low. (3) Support for distro wallpaper to be selected instead of the Sxmo one when available. Mainly usefull for the new wallpapers from PostmarketOs.
Another notable thing is that Peter left the maintainer team. He did not announce this himself, and asked for us to do so. For some reason that I'm not sure to understand, it was something hard to do for me. I think it took me three full weeks to officially announce it.

what port, then, shall we choose?
I have a wifi/tethering issue. Not with tethering, itself, but the fact my connection (on PC, on mobile) does not "listen" to Port 22 when I try to SSH into a server. I can visit Ctrl-c.club, I can use Irssi (IRC) on there, and all the server services they/we offer, but I cannot SSH into my personal VPS or run Irssi locally, or anything that requires Port 22 (that's the error I'm given on attempts).
