Almost 4 Months Since Richard Stallman Gave a Public Talk (Latest Two Attempts Got 'Canceled')
JUDGING by this semi-official page, Dr. Stallman's last talk was in the University of Minho (video here). It does not help that the FSF does not mention his talks anymore. That's partly due to fear of the "cancel mob". It has induced self-censorship.
The case of Dr. Stallman shows that 'cancel culture' targets leftists (nobody can credibly assert that he condones violence or right-wing fanaticism), not just people on the right. It seems like it aims to bring people down if they're up. Let rich shareholders and corporations control everything on the planet, right? Even Linus Torvalds was defamed by these people. They wanted him banned from public speaking. This way people who don't grasp tech (like Linux Foundation management) can take his place and inherit Linux's voice. Nope, they don't even use Linux!
Remember: this isn't about safety or protecting people. They target vulnerable minorities too and call for violence against them.
Those idiots who try to simply cancel talks of people whom they don't agree with (usually on something not related to tech!) won't stop at anything. Now they try to ban mere words or names. It has truly gotten ridiculous [1, 2] and it is backfiring quite badly. It seems like the people who preach "tolerance" have resorted to despicable acts of intolerance, unable or simply unwilling to recognise their infinite hypocrisy.
Remember (again): this is not about left or right! This is about incompetent losers trying to ruin the lives of people who did well.
When I criticised the OSI for selling out to Microsoft, an actual criminal company, OSI's response was to label me "isms" (ad hominem attacks) and try to ban my account by falsely reporting my criticism of the OSI as "COVID-19 misinformation" (censorship based on completely phony pretexts).
This is how democracy dies and free society perishes. It only takes some idiots like these and Microsofters' SLAPP censorship. These people view free speech as an obstacle [1, 2, 3] and resort to false equivalences wherein corporations are "social justice", Jews are "nazis", and terrorism is "liberation". █
