Microsoft's All-Time Lows in Macao and Hong Kong
Microsoft has fallen to all-time lows in Macao (60 KM or 37 miles west of Hong Kong), which made some headlines last week and earlier this week because of a visit from Xi (impending anniversary), but somewhere in the details there's a story about GNU/Linux growing there, as we noted this past summer [1, 2]. It wasn't some temporary boost. We're seeing almost exactly the same in Hong Kong, where iOS is about to outnumber Windows in terms of Web-connected devices/users.
Microsoft is having a hard time in China, not only for political reasons. Countries or regions that wish to isolate themselves from Beijing have vastly higher GNU/Linux adoption rates. In Taiwan, iOS seems to have surpassed Windows and GNU/Linux is measured at around 4% (3 times higher than China), the international average. █
