Is Big Tech becoming more cutthroat?
A few years ago, companies like Google, Microsoft and Facebook were known as places where – inside certain organizations – some engineers could earn large sums of money for doing comparatively little work, and wile away the work week waiting for their large new joiner equity to vest over four years. This chill approach is what the “rest” in rest-and-vest refers to, which was a popular phrase at the time for it. These places also had many teams where work was laid back, and it was possible to “coast” and get by doing relatively little.

2025-02-03 [Older] DISA Incident: Update on Review of ‘Potentially Affected Files’ and Notification Plan
On Thursday, Jan. 23, DISA Global Solutions, Inc. (DISA) provided an update to customers regarding its April 2024 cyber incident, including the results of its data review and notification plans. According to DISA, its investigation determined an unauthorized third party accessed its environment between Feb. 9, 2024, and April 22, 2024, and “procured some information.” A third-party e-discovery firm conducted a review of the affected files, which was recently completed.
DISA is a leading provider of employment screening services, including drug and alcohol testing and background checks. Clients that use DISA for employment screening should confirm whether they were affected with their HR teams.

2025-02-03 [Older] Delta County Memorial Hospital District reveals more about 2024 cyberattack that affected 148,363 people
Delta County Memorial Hospital District (Delta Health) in Colorado was the victim of a cyberattack at the end of May 2024. Whatever happened — and the details still haven’t been disclosed — resulted in the provider notifying HHS on July 29 that it had suffered a breach, but the number was not yet known. The “501” placeholder report has remained on HHS’s breach tool since last July. All we knew was that it was some kind of hacking or IT incident and that no business associate was involved.
But now Delta Health has filed a notification with the Maine Attorney General’s Office and a website notice that both provide some details, although they somewhat contradict each other. In their submission to Maine, the provider’s external counsel indicates that the breach occurred on May 27, 2024 and was discovered on January 1, 2025. That is not when Delta Health really discovered the breach and DataBreaches wishes law firms would start reporting discovery dates using HIPAA’s definition of when a breach is “discovered.”
