Gemini Protocol Milestone (3,000 Active Capsules)
In the more distant past we mentioned some Gemini Protocol milestones [1, 2] because ever since we adopted it in 2021 (more than 4 years ago) it has constantly grown. Today, as per Lupa's tally, there are 3,000 active (online) capsules and a total of nearly 4,500. The numbers fluctuate a bit.
Gemini Protocol is important because we struggle to see a positive future for the Web and we wrote several articles about it yesterday. One of them mentioned LLM slop and showed the sister slopfarm of the following:
Two slopfarms issued a fake article about "HelloKitty" (naming "Linux") just hours apart and Google News promoted both. Google either doesn't care or is unable to keep up. It promotes LLM slop and offers slop as a service, hoping to somehow profit from it. It started "Bard".
Google is basically part of the problem. It facilitates it.
Yesterday I explained to my wife that it felt "dirty" to use Google Search because when I searched for something very simple I could not get relevant or decent results. Instead I was (re)directed to a bunch of low-quality pages, probably slop (I didn't check), and then some TikTok nonsense. The state of Web search got really bad and while trying to find some simple answer I instead got slop from Google (promoted at the top, without references), then opened pages that were full off noise, trackers, clickbait etc. After about 5 minutes I just gave up, realising I was wasting my time and getting exposed to unrelated clickbait instead of what I had hoped to find. There weren't popups and ads (I block those), but it was still a vortex of noise. SEO, Spam, Slop, Search, Social control media... the Ss that make up "modern" Web.
This is why we need something like Gemini Protocol, not the fake "Gemini" of Google. █
