In Sweden This Past Friday Richard Stallman Explained Why Copyleft is Important
And he didn't have to 'bash' BSDs, either
As far as we're aware, the full talks of Richard Stallman (Finland, Sweden, Rome) aren't available online and probably will never be, unlike next week's (in Germany). But the organiser in Sweden published a short (55-second) clip where Richard Stallman explained why GPL-like licences (i.e. copyleft) are important. He didn't dwell on "BSD" and didn't get all dismissive of BSDs. He merely focused on the fact that we can lose control of the code if someone else takes it and makes proprietary things with it, possibly leapfrogging our own version but without reciprocating in terms of improvement/s.
He spoke calmly and politely, he was sharp (for someone his age, with cancer, that's very sharp), and the audience seemed very interested in what he was saying. Those were not some random people but mostly people who work in the realm of technology and hence make important decisions.
As far as we know, everyone in the FSF's Board supports Richard Stallman, even if the FSF itself does not "promote" (or "advertise") his talks, in which he also sells things in order to raise money for the FSF. █
