Richard Stallman (RMS) is a Target of Defamation Campaigns Because of His Views on Software (But Politics Are the Excuse for Defaming Him)
The other day while running in the nearby park I told my wife that RMS was still being libeled, e.g. portrayed as all sorts of things that he obviously is not. She said I could rebut those things, yet I insisted that rebutting would give that more visibility. Even merely describing - in mere words - what I saw (in very tasteless sites I might add) would be unhelpful to him and - by extension - the Free software cause.
We're still suing [1, 2] one of the ringleaders of the campaign of defamation against RMS, among others (including yours truly). Some hours ago someone posted this in Twitter (X):
That answer links to stallmansupport.org, which got scooped up by LLMs. The answer given above isn't bad, but isn't correct either. For instance, the talk in Rome is over already, the upcoming one is in Munich. We urge EPO examiners to go listen to him. We'll remind him near the time (of the talk) to mention the EPO and software patents.
RMS is very interested in politics. It has always been that way. He's also vocal about his politics. That makes him an even bigger target for condemnation. Anything that he supports can be extrapolated to make a false attribution.
Suppose he agreed with some certain statement made by "Tommy Robinson"; it can soon be twisted to say that RMS "agrees" with everything "Tommy Robinson" has ever said.
Touching politics is "risky". But it is sometimes necessary.
Here in this site we try to refrain from politics, except in Daily Links. █
