The Sniff Test
When people know how to share - not hoard - they also share with animals and can empathise with them, not exploit them. Cruelty towards animals - like alleged sexual abuse against one's own sister - is a sign of antipathy.
Free software communities don't need a "CoC", they need a "sniff test" for sociopathic people who ruin projects because they cannot get along with other people and cannot stay in a job for more than a year or two (a symptom of that).
Most "CoCs" we've seen were written for and/or by corporations (the way it typically works is, the company offers sponsorship with a condition: add a CoC that the sponsor fancies and is protected by), just like bills being passed after being "shaped" by lobbyists.
Be sceptical of "CoCs"; remember who's enforcing them. █
