GAFAM and IBM Layoffs Outline
A few hours ago: (Noida, Uttar Pradesh, India)
GAFAM openly reports layoffs this week, but the M (Microsoft) is said to have prepared lists of people to cull with PIPs or pink slips to come out next week (some said next Monday, another strand said Wednesday). It's possible Microsoft will delay this until people might already forget some tweet (remember Microsoft never denied those rumours).
As for IBM, there have been "forever layoffs" [1, 2] in effect for quite some time (IBM skirts the WARN Act this way), we heard about layoffs at Red Hat (now "IBM"; they're in many way indistinguishable in 2026), and there's a sort of ambient atmosphere of woodshedding (similar to the meaning in musical compositions) - a lot of the layoffs happen in secrecy and involve convincing people to resign, retire, relocate etc. Not many people will notice this, sometimes not even the insiders. █
