Payoffs of Lifelong Commitments
At the end of February gardening resumed and it is still a regular routine*. It's a lot of fun, but gardening the site is a task that never ends - something which relates to what we said earlier this morning. It is not "seasonal". It's a work of real dedication and persistent devotion.
RMS - in the front page of his site - has long promoted a book by his friend, Hillary Rettig:

Later this year GNU turns 43. This week it is almost exactly 42.5 years old - that's half of 85. Last month RMS turned 73. So when GNU does turn 43 it'll mean RMS spent 30 years without GNU and 43 with it.
I didn't read the book "The Lifelong Activist", but it is available online at the Internet Archive.

Changing the world in a meaningful way means being nonconformist and rejecting at least some of the status quo. Anything else is boring. █

* Today we had columba palumbus (common wood pigeon) in our garden, walking around looking for food or friends throughout this morning. The first time we noticed one inside the garden was a week or two ago. It's still out there at this very moment. Weeks ago we had an overnight stay - a sign of growing confidence in this garden. Birding is not just fun; it's helpful to birds and good for biodiversity.
