Bill Gates Hides Behind GNU/Linux in New Web Sites

Summary: Not just Microsoft Web sites but the PR sites and the investment site of Bill Gates also rely on Akamai, which runs GNU/Linux

A FEW people and Web sites have already pointed out that Gates’ latest PR stunts are GNU/Linux based. Facebook, Twitter, and even his personal site are either powered by GNU/Linux or served from GNU/Linux servers (through Akamai). From TechCrunch:

Is Bill Gates’ New Website Really Running On Linux?

[...]

How do I know this? Because the same thing happened in 2003 when it was humorously, but erroneously reported that Microsoft was using Linux servers to run microsoft.com. In fact, the same thing was going on: Microsoft was routing its traffic through Akamai, which again, runs Linux boxes. Microsoft has since apparently changed to its own servers since then so that they now correctly return Windows Server 2003 as their OS. That is likely what The Gates Report is running on as well given the Microsoft-IIS/7.0 web servers.

More here:

This article makes fun of the fact that some people have queried Bill Gates’ personal website and noticed that it looked like it was running on a Linux server. Others noted that it was a Windows server. The truth lies with Akamai, a very popular web-acceleration service.

Gates’ investment vehicle, the Gates Foundation, also relies on GNU/Linux.

It is worth adding that the Huffington Post continues its reputation laundering of Bill Gates [1, 2, 3, 4], this time with another placement which leads to the post “Huffpo platform for worship”:

A Gates Foundation grantee uses the Huffpo to worship at the lotus feet of Bill and Melinda.

By defending a criminal, the Huffington Post is tarnishing its reputation. Will they also start apologising for Rockefeller?

“Gates’ gimmick of becoming a philantropist repeats the Rockefeller scam almost one to one a century later.”

Dark cloud over good works of Gates Foundation

This month’s numbers from StatCounter are good for GNU/Linux (including ChromeOS, which technically has both GNU and Linux); the firm assesses logs from 3 million sites and shows Windows down to 66% in desktops/laptops (a decade ago it was above 90%) with modest growth for GNU/Linux, which is at an all-time high, even if one does not count ChromeOS that isn’t freedom- or privacy-respecting
