A Society That Fails Journalists Does Not Deserve Journalism
THE very sad fact is, we've failed journalism as a society; we failed to guard those who were capable exposing to us how the world truly worked and some people gleefully (and foolishly) joined the smear campaigns, surfing the wave of "rah-rah" virtue-signalling, falsely believing that slandering journalists was the act of "social justice".
I myself witnessed those methods, sometimes "first-hand". It goes something along the line of, portray the messenger as promoter of intolerance or "fascism" or some classic form of bigotry. What follows is typically a 'cancel mob' of some kind; social control media helps rally large numbers of people based on Big Lies.
It's probably too later to save Julian Assange as a working publisher (he might never recover from the mental torture), but as a person and a father we can wish and work towards his release. The Australian government is way too late and it seems to be a face-saving exercise rather than genuine concern for a citizen. They want to "amend" the historical record in their favour. █
