Amid Online Reports of XBox Sales Collapsing, Mass Layoffs in More Teams, and Windows Making Things Worse (Admission of Losses, Rumours About XBox Canceled as a Hardware Unit)...
Posted just half a day ago:
We've posted plenty of links about XBox here in the sister site throughout this week (some translations into English too, e.g. "Xbox may die"). Many cite an interview with Polygon, but most go a little further, read between the lines, seek comments, and speculate (like GamesIndustry.biz). It doesn't sound good at all. It sounds like XBox is dying and game developers, seeing the writings on the wall, already become reluctant and some walk away completely. Some headlines say this out loud. Microsoft wants it to seem not like a Microsoft issue, but in relative terms Microsoft does far worse than the rest.
Windows has loads of issues, also as a gaming platform.
XBox always failed.
"XBox was only ever a testbed for DRMed hardware and software," an associate has said. "Good riddance."
Microsoft tried to get into the hardware business, but in order to compete with Sony it actually made considerable losses on every XBox it sold, not even counting the many replacement units (it shipped a defective designs with thermal issues and optical disc issues, to name just a couple). █
Note: We shared many more links and the above is merely a concise (but informed) summary of them.
