Microsoft's Windows is Sliding Away Into Minority Platform Territories, Even in Rich Countries With Affluent Computer Users
A month ago: GNU/Linux and ChromeOS Now at 6% in France, According to statCounter
Days ago: GNU/Linux Now 20%+ in Norway's Desktops/Laptops, Over 10% Across All Devices
We seem to be striking a nerve at Microsoft every time we say this. Windows is becoming a dying breed in some nations (where only 1% of Web requests appear to originate from Windows) and in developed, rich countries such as France Android is already ahead of Windows. We've given examples as recently as last week of other such nations.
Microsoft is facing a real problem. What is its strategy? Rename and rebrand every old thing as "AI" and pretend that it is a miracle and a growth area? That won't work, they lose a lot of money on it and they burn the planet (it took the press nearly a year to point out the obvious; it's causing water shortages and warming).
Our supposition here is that there's not much of a future for Microsoft, irrespective of its supremely faked "market cap". NVIDIA actually sells something; however, at the moment it is riding the hype which follows 'crypto' and this is not sustainable. Linus Torvalds joked about that this past spring. █
