Why Microsoft is Laying Off So Many People in Nigeria
Nigeria is by far the biggest population in Africa. Nigerians are avid computer users, probably more so than their neighbours (there are reasons for this), so when one sees reports - almost every month - of Microsoft layoffs in Nigeria it's important to check what the data says.
Bing has fallen to 0.7% (Google rose to 99.11%), i.e. it lost "market share" since the LLM hype. Microsoft as an "online" thing does not matter much to an average Nigerian.
Less than a quarter of Windows users in Nigeria (users who are just about 6-7% of the whole anyway) are on Vista 11, so we're talking about less than 2% of Web requests coming from Vista 11. No wonder there are more mass layoffs there, allegedly half of Microsoft's workforce in Nigeria being laid off.
Nigeria is a place Microsoft has lost in spite of bribes against GNU/Linux adoption. █
