Microsoft Lays Off Half of Its Workforce in Nigeria
THE mainstream media (so far today) has been focused on Microsoft taking many of the world's systems offline, even critical systems (people died, in hospitals for instance). Yes, Microsoft did this, but the spin is an attempt to blame a much smaller firm. Either way, do not lose sight of this report:
After laying off half of its workforce in Nigeria, Microsoft will reduce its office space at the Kings Tower building in Ikoyi from six floors to two, suggesting a scaleback in its Nigerian operations. One person with direct knowledge of Microsoft’s business said the global technology company may not renew its tenancy in 2025 when its current agreement runs out.
So Microsoft continues to implode in Africa. There are several waves of layoffs there as the Windows "market share" plunges or goes out of control (less than 5% in several countries). Expect more of the same; beware the smokescreen or face-saving spin. █
