Google News and "Linux" Slop

posted by Roy Schestowitz on Jan 27, 2026

Our RSS feeds (the ones we regularly follow) were void of slop since Sunday, but Google News is still being Google News.

It seems to have halted linking to Linuxiac (slopfarm), at least temporarily, but last night it resumed linking to this slopfarm with "Linux" in its name:

Slop or fake: Linux Kernel Contributors And Lines of Code Statistics 2026

It also fed this other slopfarm, which dominates Google News (even regarding Stallman):

Slop or fake: The Systemd Fault Line: Why KDE’s Plasma Login Manager Is Leaving FreeBSD Behind

Slop or fake: The Unbreakable Desktop: How Vanilla OS Is Engineering a Safer, Simpler Linux for the Masses

They take actual (real) news and turn it into botspam, or fake articles full of errors.

Why won't Google be interested in tackling this issue? Instead Google has been trying to participate in this issue.
