Slop is an Addiction, Its Users Find It Addictive
Sometimes we try to forgive sites that resorted to LLMs and give them a second chance, only to soon regret it because they get back and forth on/off the wagon. LinuxIac is one example of it. Sloppy Borisov cannot help himself; his articles are a mix of slop and real text, or slop 'massaged' by him, which means it's predicated upon or rooted in slop, not creative thinking or genuine analysis.
Today we encountered the same in "FOSS Linux"; prior to that, "Ubuntu PIT".
There seems to be something that pushes (or strongly compels) those people to get back to slopping, even if they know it's wrong, even if they got caught red-handed, even if they know readers resent slop and abhor the practice of wasting their time with LLMs.
People learned from experience not to read slop, not to trust slop etc. (once they're aware they consume slop; it boils down to reputation of domains/authors - it's all about trust!)
So from now on, no more remorse; the prospects of redemption among those who crossed to the "dark side" seem slim (they just try to hide it better). Their sites are more likely to become inactive and/or go offline, not throw away the LLMs and get back to doing real work on a permanent basis.
Regarding drug addiction, as a youngster at school they kept lecturing us that the best way to tackle drug addiction was to ensure no person, no matter how young, even tries drugs or experiments (dabbles) in them. Because once it starts, it'll be hard to undo the harm and stop the addiction (withdrawal symptoms).
The same seems applicable to LLMs. Don't even try, don't even start.
Also, please do not tolerate people who slop. There's no benign slop; it's neither OK for social solidarity (plagiarism, deceit etc.) nor for general reliability. This is a giant race to the bottom; nihilistic broligarchs steer this race. █
