Oracle Seems to Have Popularised Overnight Layoffs, Now GAFAM Does the Same

posted by Roy Schestowitz on May 20, 2026

Read closely:

Simultaneously, Meta has reportedly asked North American employees to work from home as it prepares another major restructuring wave. The layoffs are likely to affect nearly 10% of the company’s global workforce.. The impacted employees are reportedly set to receive layoff emails at 4 a.m. local time.

Earlier this year Red Hat 'announced' to workers that they had been laid off by cutting off their VPN access (and all other access) in one fell swoop. Red Hat (IBM) mercilessly did this to over 400 technical workers, not based on their conduct or performance. Weeks earlier Oracle cut off tens of thousands of workers while most of them were asleep. Now GAFAM (Facebook) does the same.

That reminds me of how the EPO's hired guns in London waited until almost midnight on a Friday to send me threats (the media took note of this horrid choice of time, as did my solicitor David Allen Green). Or how the Microsofters' hired guns in London would send bullying messages to us even during weekends, even knowing we're on holiday. These people lack a sense of shame and they strategically time things for abusive effect (psychological impact). They particularly and specifically target my wife because they are super-cruel to women.

What ever happened to compassion in the professional world?
