Ubuntu Makes Novell’s Mono a “Master Of The Universe” (MOTU)

Posted in GNOME, GNU/Linux, Mono, Novell, Ubuntu at 7:51 am by Dr. Roy Schestowitz

Money gasp

Summary: Mono Booster allowed increased access to decisions at Ubuntu

Rather than shun Mono, Canonical Ubuntu is giving it more power by making Jo Shields an MOTU. One employee person from Ubuntu says to Jo, “somewhat selfishly, I hope your opinion on the Banshee/Rhythmbox thing will hold more weight now!” We’ve already explained why this is a terrible idea.

Wow, I’m a Canonical employee now? I better ask for all the salary they owe me since… well, since I’ve become one without being notified.

    Roy Schestowitz Reply:

I guess Daniel Holbach isn’t one either, despite the domain/suffix. I’ll correct this.

    Mackenzie Reply:

Canonical employees have both an @canonical.com and an @ubuntu.com (though I’m not quite sure that *all* of them do…the ones that work on Launchpad but not Ubuntu might not have the @ubuntu one…). Ubuntu Members have @ubuntu.com (whether developers or not).

    Roy Schestowitz Reply:

    Thanks, Mackenzie.

Daniel is one. If you look at his Launchpad page, you’ll notice he has an «@canonical.com» address (in case this is what caused you confusion, «@ubuntu.com» addresses are available for all Ubuntu Members, of which many are from the community: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Membership).

Canonical doesn’t “make” people MOTUs. The community does.
Next time ask around before writing such stuff.

Daniel is staff, indeed. So am I (just in case!).

Wow, some minimal research would confirm all that instead of guessing!

Roy, you should probably scrap this whole post before you damage your, err, reputation. It is a pure concentrate of factual errors and sensationalism. Moreso than usual.

    Roy Schestowitz Reply:

I’ve already crossed out the connection to Canonical (it’s a Ubuntu thing, not a Canonical thing). The rest is correct.

Oh no! They rewarded a person who has done a lot for Ubuntu with the tools and thanks he deserves! That’s terrible! How can they do such a bad thing!

  15. In Africa, Android is More Than Three Times Bigger Than Microsoft Windows

Now that Microsoft is starting to block Linux from booting on new laptops it’s important to remember that the “consumer” does not actually choose Windows; Microsoft is trying to forcibly impose Windows on unwanting computer users

  16. LinuxToday (or Linux Today) Shows Signs of Agony

The Web site LinuxToday.com is pushing webspam instead of news picks; it also sells data about visitors (the typical “We value your privacy” lie), so it seems like “monetisation” tactics have taken precedence/priority over readers (or what’s left of them anyway; the webspam inevitably drives more of them away)

  21. António Campinos Once Again Failing to Obey Court Orders, Making Up Ludicrous Excuses for Non-Compliance

The absurdity of this situation is bare and completely naked for all to see, as once again the EPO refuses to obey very explicit, unequivocal court orders, which are nearly a decade overdue. Today's EPO seems to have been taken over by crime lords, or an embodiment of nepotism brought to us by the Frenchman Campinos and his enablers from Alicante.

  22. Recruitment Potential at the EPO Has Never Been Worse

The tyrants who have taken the reins at the EPO want obedient robots, not human beings who are inclined to obey the law. Therefore, there seems to be an effort underway to drive out well-educated, highly-qualified, conscientious, experienced and charismatic workers who can stand in the way of profoundly unlawful strategies.
