DaemonFCschestowitz[TR], I've never owned a car that didn't develop ABS problems at some point.Jul 13 12:18
DaemonFCUsually they can either tell me right where it is, or they can't and I just disconnect the system and get by on normal brakes with the lights flashing at me for the next 10 years.Jul 13 12:19
DaemonFCIt's a really complex system that costs a lot of money to repair even if you can find out what's doing it.Jul 13 12:19
DaemonFCThere's a lot of things that basically have to work perfectly in order for ABS to do its job, and a lot of them don't age well, so even if the rest of the car works, ABS will fail sometime between 10 or 15 years in.Jul 13 12:20
DaemonFCThere's a module/pump, which is like anywhere from $600-2,500 to replace depending on what you drive.Jul 13 12:21
DaemonFCIt's connected to the wheels by four sensor wire harnesses that go to the wheels and line up to the wheel bearing hubs, all of these wires can corrode or get pinched or just lousy connection, and they can fail or glitch out intermittently.Jul 13 12:22

*swaggboi (~swaggboi@slackware.uk/supporter/swaggboi) has joined #techrightsJul 13 12:23
DaemonFCThen the sensors themselves are usually part of the bearing. Each bearing, has a toothed ring that spins and gives a reading magnetically to the sensor wiring that comes out from the module, and a lot of things can go wrong with the bearings to where those don't work, and it can give a bad signal either always, or just when there's a hot day and the measurement of the ABS ring changes slightly and you get one slightly different reading that Jul 13 12:24
DaemonFCtrips up the ABS module.Jul 13 12:24
DaemonFCSo if there's something intermittently wrong with the ABS ring in the bearing or the connection to the ABS module, you can end up with the car disabling the system.Jul 13 12:25
DaemonFCWhat I do not understand is how it is possible that a car with a computer this sophisticated can disable the ABS and then forget why it did it immediately, without being shut off or having any codes cleared.Jul 13 12:25

DaemonFCI got a scratch out of my phone screen with the wet corner of a melamine sponge.Jul 13 21:10
DaemonFCBarely had to apply any pressure at all.Jul 13 21:10
DaemonFCI was concerned because a guy on YouTube said don't do it, and then it turned out to really fuck up his phone, he really went at it and then also used a car polisher, and about the only thing that even happened to it after that was that water didn't bead up and slide off as well anymore.Jul 13 21:11
DaemonFCI was not in there giving it hell and then pulling out a car polisher.Jul 13 21:11
spazzdidn't even know you can fix scratches like that with a spongeJul 13 21:13
DaemonFCVery light ones, yeah, sometimes.Jul 13 21:15
spazzcan i use this technique on glasses?Jul 13 21:15
DaemonFCYou just wet the corner of the "magic eraser" and then go over the scratch applying as little pressure as possible.Jul 13 21:15
DaemonFCThen clean the glass again with a lens wipe and it should look okay again.Jul 13 21:15
DaemonFC<spazz> can i use this technique on glasses?Jul 13 21:15
DaemonFCI don't know about that.Jul 13 21:15
DaemonFCThey make eyeglass polishing kits. They're meant for slight scratches on eyeglasses and watch faces.Jul 13 21:16
DaemonFCYou don't want to go after them with something that's only going to make it look worse than it already is.Jul 13 21:16
DaemonFCIf the scratch is in there too deep, you're talking replacing a lens.Jul 13 21:17
DaemonFCSometimes that's prohibitive because your prescription has expired and it would require another eye exam, and then your prescription won't be the same anyway.Jul 13 21:17
DaemonFCIf they're really expensive frames that are in excellent condition, at that point you could maybe have them take out both lenses and make new ones in the new prescription strength.Jul 13 21:18
DaemonFCBut I buy cheap eyeglasses online and they work fine, and paying anyone to do something with them would cost more than replacing a whole pair.Jul 13 21:18
spazzyeah. these glasses were kinda expensive for my budgetJul 13 21:18
spazzi don't want to replace themJul 13 21:18
spazzthey should be scratch resistant but seems like they're not really resistant in practiceJul 13 21:19
DaemonFCThere are materials that are more resistant to scratching up, but if you work at it, you'll scratch them.Jul 13 21:19
DaemonFCDropping them hard enough on a hard surface, cleaning them with a dirty microfiber cloth that turns out it has something in it, or your shirt.Jul 13 21:20
DaemonFCOnly use disposable eyeglass wipes or the eyeglass spray and a coffee filter.Jul 13 21:20
DaemonFCToss the wipe or coffee filter after you use it one time. Switch segments around so if you pick something up on one part, you're not grinding it into the lens.Jul 13 21:21
DaemonFCThey should definitely last a lot longer.Jul 13 21:21

DaemonFCYou know, if anyone does speak honestly, and few will about teenagers, they'll say "Well the police may have only arrested the adult, but at 15 you know what you're doing.". The judge even told that to Michael, one of my exes, who lured a school teacher to engage in sex acts with him at that age.Jul 13 23:44
DaemonFCThe judge told Michael "You knew what you were doing. If I ever see you again, you'll be in contempt of court and sitting in my jail!".Jul 13 23:45
DaemonFCSo if the judge thinks to berate a 15 year old for their complicity in a crime, why doesn't he just go ahead and order some punishment on both ends?Jul 13 23:46
DaemonFCI think it would do a world of good in these cases to have a teenager sitting in jail for 30 days, and then we'll see if they ever do that again or if they have some respect for the law and how they interact with others.Jul 13 23:47
DaemonFCIf more judges held teenagers accountable, the world would be different.Jul 13 23:47
DaemonFCThe reason carjackers hand a gun to a teenager and have them carry it out is they know the judges and the laws will go soft and they'll have their records wiped when they turn 18.Jul 13 23:47
MinceRi don't think it would be differentJul 13 23:48
MinceRhumans offing themselves would make the world differentJul 13 23:48
DaemonFCThat's how the criminals pitch it to the teenagers. "Do this for me. I give you cash. The worst that happens after you hold a gun on them and get their car is you do some time on weenie probation and nobody knows about it later.".Jul 13 23:48

MinceRour whole society is fundamentally brokenJul 13 23:48
DaemonFCWhen I talked to my attorney for something when I was 16 he says "Yeah, this is all bullshit. But I worked out a deal with the judge where I got you some weenie probation if you just plead to it, and your record will be sealed next year anyway.".Jul 13 23:49
DaemonFCI go, "Weenie probation!? Is that a legal term?".Jul 13 23:49
DaemonFCHe says, "You just have to say you won't break the law for a year or leave the house without one of your parents, but they won't be watching you. Just don't draw any attention to yourself if you do it anyway.".Jul 13 23:50

britneyDaemonFC, thanks, quite interestingJul 13 23:52
DaemonFCThe inflation figure is up to 9.1% now. The Fed will keep hitting us with 0.75% rate hikes every month, and may use this in order to justify two in a month.Jul 13 23:52

DaemonFCIn two months, you might get 90 Euro cents to the US Dollar.Jul 13 23:52
DaemonFCI don't believe they'll remain at parity, I think the Euro will continue to weaken against the Dollar.Jul 13 23:53
DaemonFCThe EuroZone has been mismanaged for years, much worse than the US Dollar has.Jul 13 23:53
DaemonFCAnd the Day of Reckoning is finally upon them for allowing this.Jul 13 23:54
DaemonFCWith the Fed committed to jacking up interest rates, it forced the ECB to do the same, but they don't really want to and they won't really commit to doing it.Jul 13 23:55
