HockeyStick Show Explains Copyleft and Why That Still Makes Linux Successful (Linus Torvalds Repeatedly Admitted That)
Video: GNU, GPL and copyleft licences
TOMORROW at 4PM CET the founder of GNU (and the GPL, its foundational licence that dictates reciprocity via "copyleft") starts a string of 3 talks in 4 days (in various different locations across Italy) [1, 2]. The mainstream (corporate) media likes to pretend he does not exist (or does not matter!) until it has a chance to engage in ritual defamation against him. This is what happens when large media conglomerates are owned by or operate as large corporations. There is no obligation to the audience and no respect for facts. The corporations that loathe and violate the GPL exercise endless control over today's Linux Foundation, which works for Bill Gates while sending Linus Torvalds to expulsion. (yes, the Linus in Linux!).
Have a look at this short video.
The video was uploaded to YouTube Invidious [1, 2] 5 days go and it isn't so bad a description of what happened and why GPL-licensed software works better in practice. The founder of Linux (not founder of GNU/Linux) habitually credits GCC, GPL, et cetera for Linux's success, but he never credits GNU's founder. If he did, he would dispel the mythology about him starting the entire system in Helsinki back in the 90s. GNU started in 1983 and in the mid 80s its founder was already travelling the world to give talk about it (not far from a very young Torvalds, still in high school across the border from Sweden). █
