Techrights Thanks Readers for the Support
The traffic in Techrights has been very high lately and we've receive accolades from very high-profile people, who not only appreciate what we publish but also our legal rights and fights for freedom of speech.
Techrights will publish a lot this week, hopefully not about the election/politics (we've confined this to tech policy/issues [1, 2]) because polling is tomorrow. There are many political sites out there already. Some cover tech policies.
Daily Links remain a priority for us and most GNU/Linux news is in the sister site, Tux Machines, which clocked almost a million requests yesterday.
Tux Machines turned 20 years and 3 weeks the day before yesterday. Next week it turns 20 years and 1 month. It's a slow journey towards 25 and 30 years, which we're quite confident will be reached without issues. Even if the Web perishes, we will still have Gemini.
As noted here earlier, Assange's family needs financial help and it's a special day for Julian Assange; it's his birthday today, so now would be a good time to "chip in". Since we wrote about this a few hours ago only 5 more people donated, so it doesn't quite look like they'll exceed 500k in total.
Freedom isn't free. Freedom of speech can also be rather expensive.
Quoting Assange's team:
Julian Assange has embarked on flight VJT199 to Saipan. If all goes well it will bring him to freedom in Australia. But the flight comes at enormous cost: Julian will owe USD 520,000 which he is obligated to pay back to the Australian government for the charter flight to Saipan and onward to Australia. In addition, and after 14 years of detention, including five years in maximum security prison, Julian’s health is in dire need of recovery. We are launching an emergency appeal to seek donations to help him cover the flight debt and substantial funds to ensure his recovery and well-being and safety upon his arrival.
Every contribution counts.
Even if you're not a publisher or activist yourself, remember to support those who are. People sacrifice a lot to inform and emancipate other people. Some people have died for it. █
