Free Software is Not a Business Model
Calling "software freedom" a "business" is rather inane; it's a lot like calling bees "workers" or birds "HR". Not every thing is motivated by the financial or economic model.
Go ahead, ask your friend, "how do you plan to monetise your children?"
See how your friend reacts.
Last month we debunked some nonsense like this.
Business is means for making or raising capital. Hobbies are not. Free software is about making or using tools. It's not about charging people a fee every month.
A lot of arguments against Free software are ludicrous straw men. We need to respond to those arguments. They're not hard to debunk. █
